Michael O'Connor

My name is Michael O'Connor and currently I am at my job as a UVN (University Video Network) Operator in the Oviatt Library at CSUN.  I was born and raised in Agoura Hills, California, which is roughly a forty-five drive away from CSUN.  Currently I am earning a degree for movie sound engineering in the Cinema Television and Arts program at CSUN, although I am truly a movie editor.  I have completed many small movie projects to date, but my biggest achievement has been completing my first documentary about a jazz conductor from Agoura High School.  The project taught me many lessons in filmmaking and I have received much praise from not only friends but other movie makers as well.

Apart from my career life, I devote the rest of my time with my fiancee whom I've known for over a year now.  I honestly never thought I would want to marry someone until I met and got to know this special woman.  When I have time alone I also enjoy hiking, rock stacking, playing Frisbee, photographing, and playing drums.  My main instrument is the drum set but if I ever come across an unusual instrument I usually feel compelled to play and own one immediately.  For instance, when I came across an audio recording of an mbira (thumb piano) I began to study mbiras and eventually purchased one through eBay.  Another unusual instrument I'v e come across is called a melodica, which is basically a hand-held breath-driven organ.  If I had to name the band which has influenced me the most I would say the experimental jazz group Medeski, Martin & Wood.
