Jessica Herrera

My name is Jessica and I am a second year student at CSUN, and so far I’m really enjoying it. I am an English major with a credential option, which means my ultimate goal is to become an English teacher. With that being said it is no surprise that I love reading. My senior year of high school I took what I thought would be an easy “A” tutoring class. But once I realized how invested I became in my tutees’ progress and how rewarding it was to be helping them, I knew that I wanted to do that for the rest of my life.

I have been an athlete from a young age. I’ve played so many sports but once I hit high school I focused on my favorite, softball.  Being a college student I don’t have much time to devote to a team, plus I wouldn’t know where to find a team here in Northridge. Now that I’m not playing I realize how much I love the game and miss being part of a team. An interesting fact about me would be that because of my love for the superhero Batman I received the unconventional nickname of Bruce. Not too many people that I see on a regular basis still call me that. But every once in a while I still catch myself looking up when it’s called out even though I know it’s highly unlikely that that person is calling out to me.
